I decided that because I am totally awesome, I shall have a page dedicated to all the totally awesome stuff I've read, watched or whatever. This is because everything I like ROCKS. And because they are so totally awesome, everyone must be forced to experience them! I also don't like how no-one has ever seen/heard of anything I like, when they deserve to be as well known as movies such as the Harry Potter series, which doesn't really deserve a mention on here, but yeah. So you must watch all the movies I list, watch at least the pilot of the TV shows I lovingly type for you, listen to all the songs I mention, and read all the books I say are sensational!!! MWAHAHAHAHA!! BOOMSHANKA!!!
Although I'm terribly exciting, some of you impatient people may just wanna skip to the list (ie, all of you even though I spent hours writing these, and maybe we should just get a cat- ok I'll be quiet) so I tenderly uploaded it and have left you a download link:
Festen (1998) - I really do not like mainstream movies. Because, like romances, musicals and Bollywood films, are totally predictable. I also really hate dramas, because all they are, are people talking. Nevermind that my two favourite movies of all time are both dramas (this is one of them). Now, Festen, is a drama and is not mainstream. It's a Dogma film, which if you know what it is, or find out what it is, you'll probably do the same thing I did "PFFT!". I read the plot summary for this movie, and thought "Ooh, sounds pretty awesome" and then I read "Danish" "Dogma" (ie, handheld camera, no effects (which is good), etc) and I thought "WTF, this is gay". So I acquired it. And I watched it. At first, I was sort of "eh", but at the end of it all I almost died because it was so amazing. I admit some of it was kinda gay, but this movie really is amazing. It's just so perfect and I absolutely love it. This is why you must watch it. Most people only watch what's placed in front of them (ie, mainstream) which I was like once, and I'm so glad I pulled myself out of that because I would have never have found or have watched this. So watch it or DIE.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) - This is my other favourite movie, my actual favourite movie of all time. I wrote Festen first because it's on my mind a lot. Anyway, One Flew.. yes. Now, what had happened was my dad and I went to the video shop and he grabbed this. This was in 2005 I think, and I had just started watching older, and alternative movies. When we got home, I had a look at it, was kinda "eh" because it was a drama, but I figured, 1) it's set in a mental hospital and it's fun to watch that (yes, I'm a little 'racist' but so what?) and 2) Jack Nicholson is totally awesome. I thought it was frickin wonderful. I watched it again a couple months ago, while my brother (who is 14) was in the same room. He occasionally glanced at it and asked a million questions, as he does watching any movie. Now, my brother, Jim, I call him, is a complete retard. His favourite movies include The Fast and The Furious, How High, You Got Served, Soul Plane and other kinds of rubbish. As you can tell, he enjoys watching black guys, especially black guys dancing. Anyway, near the end of the movie, he asks me "Is she [Nurse Ratched] like that in real life?" - ok, first of all , stupid question, but even retards can spot good acting! It really amazed me that even stupid Jim could recognize such wondrous acting. I replied with some witty reply stating that unlike the people in the bollocks he watches, the people in the stuff I watch (not all the stuff) can actually act, and that there is something for them to act (ie, good dialogue, characterization, plot). Even if you are a noob who only enjoys watching cars get blown up, people fighting and black guys dancing, you should check this out anyway, to see what a real movie is like.
Nosferatu (1922) - Like I said earlier, I absolutely despise [most] mainstream movies. When I was younger I was a feral child and only watched and listened to what was available, ie new stuff. This all changed in 2003 when I watched Vertical Limit (2000) (strange, eh?). I fell in love with "Little Ole Wine Drinker Me" and there began my love for Dean Martin. This confused me greatly, as I was now enjoying music made 50 years ago, when I was quite content, sort of, listening to some of the stuff out now. Yes, this is relevent to Nosferatu. After watching two other movies with wonderful old music, I thought "Hmm.. this is strange, let's have a look at 60's music", so I did. Then, as me and dad already had a joke about Nosferatu, I saw Nosferatu at the video shop and watched it (in 2004). I was kinda "WTF?" the whole way, but the point is, is that I would much rather watch this (yes it is silent, and it's all orange looking) than the bollocks out these days. I will admit, I didn't particularly like it, and I'm not dissing it, it's just that, as amazing as I am I can't adjust myself to all that context poop, and because of the stuff I already watched, this was kinda boring. Not my fault though, I was just born decades late. So I say to watch this, just because it is quite gay, but I reckon everyone should watch at least one silent film in their life, and come on - Gustav von Wangenheim! Who doesn't love that name?! Eh??
Idiocracy (2006) - Ok, I absolutely love this movie and I can't convince anyone to watch it. My dad keeps going "Yeh, I'll watch it this weekend". My brother hits me everytime I mention it, my mum - well, let's not get into that. I watched it because I was looking for movies/books that were set in post apocalyptic or dystopic worlds. Because I love that kind of stuff. Anyway, I found this, and thought it sounded cool. I saw Mike Judge, and thought "Yeh, Beavis and Butthead man!" but then I saw Luke Wilson and thought "Ugh. Well at least not his brother" and therefore I watched it, and loved it. The acting isn't tremendously great, but it's a comedy, who cares? I want dialogue, timing, and what's the other thingy... uh.. flip I can't remember, why am I dictating??? Uh... Heh, I had to ask my dad - Delivery! Yes, very important! Some bits were kinda gay, but I found it extremely amusing, and funny. A lot of people complained that it was 'racist' (Who the flip cares? If you're comfortable with your race, then it shouldn't be offensive), and 'stupid' (Yeah, coming from someone who finds things like Wedding Crashers funny). So ignore those idiots and watch this goddamn movie coz it's awesome, and if I recommend a new movie, or a romance, then it must be pretty frickin' special.
TV Shows
The Young Ones (1982) - This is the most brilliant, funniest show ever made. I remember when I was about 9 or so, my dad told me to watch it (it was his favourite show when he was a teenager), so I did, and I thought it was frickin stupid, and all it was was "ugly, British guys". I hated (Shock! Horror!) England and everything British and Australian at this time. Now, I hate everything Australian and LOVE [almost] everything British. Anyway, in 2004, my dad rented Bottom Live 3, and we played a few minutes of it on my computer. I thought it was gay and told him to leave with it. After a while, I got bored on my computer and so went to the lounge room, where it had about 10 minutes to go, so I watched it. I thought it was hilarious, and therefore went on a Bottom mission to watch the live shows. My dad then decides to inform me, that these blokes were in The Young Ones. So I took his Young Ones tape back to my mothers and watched it all. I fell in love with the show [and with House of Fun]. My love of this show, led me to all sorts of wondrous things, such as Monty Python, Blackadder etc. I also found it quite amusing that only a few months before Drop Dead Fred was on TV, and I watched the last half, because it was a friend of mine in Year 7's favourite movie, looked it up, saw Rik Mayall was the "ugly bloke in Guest House Paradiso" thought "err" and forgot about it.
Firefly (2002) - This show is absolutely FANTASTIC. Absolutely perfik. I watched this a few months after watching Serenity, which I thought was pretty cool. But Firefly totally pwns Serenity. Everything about it is brilliant. Every episode is exciting, fun, and hilarious. The only episode I don't particularly like is the one where they hang with the companions on that desert planet place. Probably, because it gets a little romantic, what with Inara and Mal, and that woman from The O.C. Anyway, I even like all the characters, save for Inara, but still. Excellent casting as well. It's written so well, just thinking about it gets me all excited and now I wanna watch it all again. Also, the biggest mystery of the world is "How the hell did Firefly get cancelled?" Screw "What's the meaning of life [42]?", it's definitely Firefly. It seems like every time I watch it I like it even more, so you must watch this masterpiece!
Spaced (1999) - I watched this after reading that most of the extras in Shaun of the Dead (which totally owns) were fans of Spaced. So I thought that I must watch it coz SotD was awesomely funny. And Spaced was absolutely brilliant also. I don't particularly like female characters in anything, but I didn't mind Daisy or Twist. Brian and Mike were frickin hilarious. Actually, I like all the characters. I also found it quite exciting when I was watching Episode 3, and I thought "Hmm... that looks and sounds like David Walliams". I didn't look it up, but after a few more seconds, realized that there was no way that could be anyone else. So yeah. That's also my favourite episode "Pud-ding! I always loved your quirkyness" and "I 'ate your mum, and I 'ate you!" are things I say on a regular basis.
Little Britain (2003) - At school, this complete bastard I know called Damian, kept saying "Dust? Anybody, no? Dust?" over and over and over and I was gonna kill him. Instead, I looked it up and found a clip on the BBC website. I thought it looked interesting, and so watched all of it. There are some sketches I don't like, like Dennis Waterman, I just don't like it, or the woman who spews and the one who pees, that's kinda boring. But Sebastian and the Prime Minister are so frickin awesome, I absolutely love 'em! I quote Seb on a daily basis "I like to dump mine and suck the chocolate off" "Gregory!" "Give it a minute" "Go on, treat yourself!" etc. I also quote Lou and Andy, Vicki Pollard, Computer Says No, and Emily Howard a lot. Yeh. I find it very quotable. We also saw them live, which was really funny, and David almost fell off the chair which was quite funny.
The Outer Limits (1995) - This aint actually a proper show. It's a different story each episode. I absolutely love this show. A LOT. Some episodes suck really bad though. The thing that I absolutely love about it, is that it's not always a happy ending, but not always an unhappy ending, so you never know what you're gonna get! Which is really awesome. I'm also in love with Science Fiction though, so all the "I like romantic comedies and musicals!" people should go away. Some of my favourite episodes are Stranded, Inconstant Moon (which I've also read), the one where Ducky from Pretty in Pink goes out for cigarettes, but comes back every 10 years, all the Alex Diakun ones (which I put off watching, because I didn't like his name), the one with the Sid Camden bloke who changed his appearance, the one with that skinny weird bloke who has an alien wife - I think it's called First Anniversary and a bunch of others. But, they are all really varied, which is cool.
South Park (1997) - Ok, I hate cartoons, save Invader Zim and this. I don't mind Futurama though. I also like some of those things I watched when I was little (Angry Beavers, Rocko's Modern Life, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Pokemon, Ren and Stimpy and Beavis and Butthead) but anyway. Though I hate a lot of people, people that I hate most are people who complain about racism, sexism, age-ism, religionism, noobism etc. Ok, yes it is bad to say "Yo, you're black, I hate you, I'm gonna rape your wife and steal your children and then kill your dog", but making fun of people is completely different. South Park makes fun of every single person, the people that complain are people who are insecure about themselves and want to complain about something. South Park does not threaten any race or religion or sex, the blokes who made it don't care, they know that people do find 'insulting' things funny, and they wanna make people laugh. I'm sure that their goal isn't to cause fat, black, Jewish, Christian Scientologists to kill themselves. Who the flip cares who they make fun of? It's funny! And extremely quotable. I like quotes.
Invader Zim (2001) - Every weekend in 2002, I had to stay at my Poochini's place, and even though I was encouraged to play outside (coz they live on a gigantic block out in Landsdale in the foresty place), I would stay inside and play gameboy or watch TV. One day, a new show was gonna be on, so I thought I'd watch it and I did. I was like "WTF?" the whole time. It was so frickin' funny, and I was like "I actually thought The Simpsons was funny once. WTF was I on?". Absolutely hilarious and random. Quotable, again. Seriously, how this got cancelled I do not know.
Monty Python's Flying Circus (1969) - For some reason, when I was little I had watched something set in a circus, someone had mentioned Monty Python, and I hated whatever it was I watched, and therefore hated MoPy. One day I read that the cheesecake thing in The Young Ones ("Is this a cheese shop?" "No sir." "Well that's that sketch knackered then, innit?") was from MoPy. "Hmm.. sounds good" I thought. One day, I was at the video shop and they said "Yo, if you get two more movies you get like a dollar off", so mum told me to get something. I remembered MoPy, and I quickly grabbed the first two movies I saw ("And Now For.." and "Holy Grail"). I watched them both that night and thought it was hilarious, and I also was quite interested in a 'certain' member of the group (Nudge, nudge, wink, wink (not Eric)). I couldn't find the series on DVD, and so got heaps on VIDEO (!). I then bought the whole thing on DVD from the UK. And watched it all over the weekend (lucky me, I got it on Friday). Frickin funny stuff.
Black Books (2003) - Now, as much as I like the show, the quality very much declined in the 2nd and 3rd series. First series though was really funny. First episode especially "with a pickle!". Great. I don't really know what to say, but I also found it quite exciting seeing Martin Freeman and Simon Pegg turn up in an ep. And I think Peter Serafinowicz or whatever was in an ep, but I don't like him for some reason.
Are You Being Served (1972) - I watched this due to a sketch on Little Britain, because I found it quite amusing when she coughs saying "Molly Sugden". I also found AYBS very funny. I found it quite amusing the other day, I was watching X2, and I hit a button on the remote, as I was flicking through to get back to the DVD, it landed on normal TV for a split second and I thought "That looked like Trevor Bannister", so I flicked back and lo and behold Twevor! Coz AYBS was on, which excited me.
Blackadder Goes Forth (1987) - When I saw this was on TV, I thought I'd have a look, as I'd heard that Rik Mayall was in an episode and that Hugh Laurie was in it (I had thought he was funny in 'Bambi' (A Young Ones episode)). I watched a bit, thought it was really funny, and therefore rented it out. I also found it quite amusing that this got me into A Bit of Fry and Laurie, and then I read about House, which was coming to Australia soon. Then, the next day I saw a preview on telly, and I was amazed.
Bottom (1991) - This show was pretty gay, the live shows owned, but yeah. A particular few episodes were sensational, and I quote them daily, especially to Munty "I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU! GO CRAWL AWAY AND DIE IN A DITCH SOMEWHERE!" and I stop there, as I don't swear (they say bastard, but I don't say it). And other fantastic quotes such as "I'd rather have a pineapple shoved violently into my rectum".
Doctor Who (2005) - Yes, I'm recommending a new show. I originally wanted to watch the original Doctor Who, but after discovering it had 26 seasons, ie a lot of gb, I decided I'd settle for the new one. I thought that David Tennant was actually the doctor (Damian had kept quoting from The Catherine Tate show (which SUCKS) and I had seen a clip with him, wondered why they called him the doctor, etc), and so when it was Christopher Eccleston, I was like WTF? I was a bit annoyed at Billie Piper too. Anyway, Christopher Eccleston was hilarious "Steak and chips!" and I started getting annoyed when I got to the end of S1, coz I didn't want him to go. But I thought, well David Tennant is kinda.. as a backup incase he sucked ass. Which he did at first. I really did not like him at all. I don't particularly like him now either and I want Eccleston back. Anyway, I didn't like Rose either, until they threw Martha in, coz I hated her more. Then they got rid of her, and I hear they want Catherine Tate! WTF? SHE SUCKS!! Anyway, the show is quite fun.
Kenny vs Spenny (2004) - One day, Jim and I were looking for something to watch, I saw a 'vs' show, I said "'Ave a look at that Jim", he did. They were seeing who would stay up the longest. I thought Kenny was hilarious, and therefore watched it on TV, and then up until recently, watched it religiously on Youtube, until some gay fascists took it off. Some competitions are kind of gay, but Kenny is funny, and the show's cool.
Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction (2001) - I watched this show religiously in 2002, coz it was cool. It was on last night, and I hadn't seen it in years, and remembered how totally awesome it was. They just show a bunch of stories (5) and then you can guess whether it was based on a true story or not, and they tell you at the end which ones were true or false. The only one I can really remember was one where this kid went missing, and then the cops asked this pyschic horse where he was, the horse said [he used these letter plate things] he was alive, in a well near his house. The kid was. The story was true, and I like the horse.
Queer as Folk UK (1999) - During 2002, I watched many shows. Even as an 11 year old, I found gays particularly exciting. One night, some show about gays was gonna be on (after I watched Beyond Belief), I didn't want to go to bed yet, it was rated like R, so I watched it. I found it interesting, twas very graphic as I wasn't expecting the bloke to flash his bits, but I don't care. Anyway, I bought the series, and thought it was cool (and fell in love with the song "Santa Maria").
Queer as Folk US (2000) - When I was watching QaF UK, my Poochini watched this version, which I attempted watching one night in 2002, thought it was gay (not in a good way) and forgot about it. Last year (2006), Jim and I were trying to find something to watch while we waited for mum. I saw that QaF was on, and told him to go to it. I realized it was the American one, but continued watching. We were then subject to Michael and Ben having sex in their bathroom, which we found quite amusing. So I acquired all 5 seasons, and watched 4 of them during the two week school holiday. Ted and Michael are totally awesome by the way. I also really hated Brian and loved Ted, and then at the end of the show, Brian ended up more like Ted, and so I liked Brian more, and Ted was like Brian, and I liked him less. WTF? Michael stayed himself pretty much the whole way through, and he was pretty cool.
The Fast Show (1994) - One day I was bored. I had downloaded this 50 Greatest Comedy Sketches thing, so I watched it. As I watched I saw a few particularly 'interesting' *cough* people, but what influenced my decision was Ted and Ralph. This was number 9, I think. Like I've said, I like gay people. I don't know why, I'm not particularly fond of lesbians, coz I hate females, but gay guys, yeh they cool. Anyway. Michael Palin talked about Ted and Ralph, he liked it, I decided "I must see it, the great Palin has spoken". So I did. I watched all 3 series in 1 and 1/2 days. Unfortunately, during the second day we got broken into (I was in the middle of watching it at my mums, when my bro told me, we got broken into), which sucked balls. They took my dads laptop, our XBOX 360, Jim's Yu-Gi-Oh cards, money etc. I was very upset. Luckily, my room was not touched, although dad couldn't even tell, coz it was already so messy. I figure it was because my door was closed and I have a sign saying "Toilet" on my door. Anyway, I went back to mums and The Fast Show cheered me up. I like The Fast Show and Ted and Ralph OWN.
Smallville (2001) - I was at Poochini's one day when the first episode, I think, was on. I thought it looked random and gay and forgot all about it. Remembering only, Lex and crops. And when I saw Sorority Boys, I was like "Hey! I've seen that guy!". Anyway, on November 1 2006, something happened and I decided to try Smallville out. So I started acquiring the first season. I watched it all. They were halfway through Season 7 when I started watching. By mid February I had watched the first 6 seasons and had caught up to where they were. It took me that long because I also started watching Heroes in December, and Grey's Anatomy. Some of it is really gay and I hate Lana and I hate Erica Durance and Tom Welling is really frickin ugly and disgusting, but I like the show anyway. It's cool.
Books
Flesh and Blood by Graham Masterton - This is my favourite book of all time. Graham Masterton is also my favourite author, which is kinda weird I guess, considering that Stephen King is the best storyteller, really, but anyway, I love Graham Masterton, I just really like his writing style. I read Flesh and Blood because my dad had been given a heap of books from some person at his work. He finished reading it, and I thought I'd read it, because only being 11 or 12 or something, I hadn't actually read any 'adult' books, only short stories and stuff like Goosebumps (which is frickin awesome). Anyway, I liked it straight away, nevermind that the first chapter includes the main bloke, chopping his kids heads off. I enjoyed it greatly, and was deeply saddened when father had to return the books. But then, a miracle happened! This person didn't want the books anymore, so I got a whole heap of them! Woo! I've read Flesh and Blood about 3 times, which is the most times I've read a book, not including Goosebumps. Not much, but I'm really a movie person. Anyway, whether I'm watching or it or reading it, I enjoy people getting killed in creative ways (Freddy Krueger alert!). The Green Traveller is a pretty awesome dude - he rapes women, comes back a while later and kills the kids. He also does this awesome thing where he chops their heads off, gets his magical friend bloke to sew the head on, so that the person is alive, and can feel all the pain while the Traveller rips their guts out. I suggest y'all read it, coz it's totally amazing.
Spirit by Graham Masterton - I can't remember it properly, but some little girl dies in a frozen pool, haunts her sister and kills everyone she meets. Like I said, I can't really remember anything, but I enjoyed it, and once again, Graham Masterton has an awesome writing style. Also, there's a mini rape scene, and rape scenes are cool (no, I don't go all nambla over them).
Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan - While researching on how to create good characters for my NaNoWriMo novel, I came across a discussion on memorable characters, and a lot of people carried on about this Noah bloke. Though, I knew nothing about the character or the book, I was already intrigued, so I bought it off Amazon (which totally rocks btw), along with my Pokedex book thing. I read it the day it came and I fully enjoyed it. I do enjoy reading/watching things about gay people (why, I don't know, I suppose they are more interesting than us straights). But yeah, I liked it a lot, and it really 'grabbed' me, which is why I read it that day, I guess. There were a couple of moments, where I actually could relate (no, I'm not gay) which I've never done before, I don't remember when though.
Battle Royale by Koushun Takami - Ah yes, Battle Royale. When I first watched the movie, I fell in love with it, and decided to change my NaNoWriMo novel's plot to match it. Even after all my notes and characters that I'd made up for my novel before, which was based on Last Night. Anyway, I thought "I wanna read the book!", so I bought it off Amazon, and it finally arrived. I read it over a few days because 1) it was 600 odd pages, and 2) my laptop screwed up about the same time, so as I was resetting it over and over for 5 hours a day and trying to work out how to fix it, I would read the book. I have to say I enjoyed the movie more, it may have had something to do with the fact that I was really upset and angry about my laptop, but yeah. My main complaint was that I liked that in the movie they called out the order in which they died, instead of in order of their number. So yeah. It's a good book, but pretty long.
Family Portrait by Graham Masterton - When we first got all the GM books, I started reading this one and got bored. It was about this bloke who kidnapped people, paralyzed them and then cut their skin off. Which kind of bored me. But then we were going to the Gold Coast a second time, so I brought it with me and finished it up there (this was a couple years later), and I enjoyed it, actually. It was kinda weird, but I noticed GM's books are. I mean, obviously they are, they're horror, but yeah. I can't even really remember it properly, all I remember at the mo, is the beginning, a bit in a painting place and Henry Gray (who I liked for some reason).
House of Stairs by William Sleator - After searching for books/films set in post apocalyptic and dystopic worlds, I came across this, which sounded pretty goddamn cool. So I bought it, and it arrived the same day as Battle Royale, but I read this first as it was smaller. The characters annoyed me, but I think that was because they were teenagers, but the plot and idea excited me. I like that kind of thing, y'see. I reckon though, it shouldn't have been explained at the end, although it does give closure and whatever, I think it should have just been left just before the ending bit.
